Attend Maritime Day & Blessing of the Fleet

One of our favorite special events at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is the annual Maritime Day & Blessing of the Fleet.  This year, the event is on June 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event’s purpose is to highlight boatbuilding and other traditional maritime skills by starting construction on the new Maryland Dove.

Attendees will garner a greater appreciation to the meticulous, careful labor that goes into boat construction. You’ll even have the chance to leave your mark on the Maryland Dove by crafting large, wooden nails to be used on the ship. We are so excited for this fun and engaging event to kick off on June 1! There are more opportunities to participate in interactive events and specials at the museum throughout the year, so don’t fret if you can’t make it to the Eastern Shore in June.

View the Floating Fleet

One of the most popular attractions at the museum is the Floating Fleet. The museum believes that the best way to preserve the fleet while also sharing it with the public is by water. The fleet is comprised of rare models that boast both traditional and unique design.

During peak season, May through October, you can view the fleet during museum hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. General admission for adults is $15 and is valid for two days, festivals included!

Browse the Collection of Chesapeake Bay

The Collection of the Chesapeake Bay is the most comprehensive way to learn about our area’s maritime culture. Gaze at the fleet collection floating in the bay, view small-scale models, marine engines, and more. All of these components blend together to create a holistic experience highlighting all of the moving parts of maritime life and culture.

Aside from fleet, the museum also features historical land structures like the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse. This artifact is one of only three surviving lighthouses of its kind and was moved to the museum to preserve its longevity.
